This short course covers most aspects of the machinery operations onboard a vessel in order to keep logs on the Oil Record Book Part-I.

This course is all about the sun. We're going to do morning and afternoon sun lines by hand in all hemispheres of the ocean the Northern, Southern and the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, and eventually, it's going to culminate with the voyage from Grenada to the Virgin Islands where we calculate our position just based on the sun and running fixes.

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Engine Room, the pivotal component of a ship's operations. It is structured into seven modules; we start by introducing the engine room, the team and the organisational management. Safety is a critical element in day-to-day life as well as in emergencies, and we shall cover all aspects, from what you should wear each day, up to how to proceed during an exceptional event in the engine room. Finally, you will gain an understanding of the operations, maintenance, guidelines and procedures of the ship’s machinery. It is important to stress that you always orient yourself towards your engine room's specifications and follow your shipping company-approved procedures. You will be presented with an assessment at the end of this course.

Cargo Carry Units (CCU’s) and their packing and handling is a major part of the Oil and Gas Industry and due to the nature of the work, can be hazardous. This course was first developed in 2014 by the laboratory company Kystlab AS, which was our company name back then. The scaling and development of our company have included both mergers and shareholder changes, and our name is now Nemko Norlab AS – a part of renowned Nemko Group. We are still the largest, Norwegian owned laboratory company, and “Clean water offshore” is still based on our company´s year-long experience with water laboratory analysis, including potable water offshore. In Nemko Norlab the scientific know-how is further strengthened, and the service portfolio to the offshore segment expanded significantly. All together we now conduct over 100.000 routine analyses annually related to drinking water.

 

New in the 5th Edition

- As with the Covid-19 virus, the focus on the lethal shower microbe Legionella is increasing offshore due to the risk of disease outbreak. The training course has therefore been further strengthened to prevent Legionella disease.

- The course is also updated according to new recommendations for the annual sampling program, changes that potentially will lower analysis costs.

- This edition has also been updated in accordance with current regulations, including an important change in authority responsibility. The Institute of Public Health is no longer responsible for anything offshore.

The course is delivered by the accredited laboratory NEMCO NORLAB AS. 

The learning outcomes of the course will include: understanding the anchors and how they work, gaining knowledge on chain cables and anchorage lines and learn about anchorage areas, and knowledge on how to turn on the anchor and how to moor with two anchors. Understanding of how to use an anchor in a manoeuvre for mooring, unmooring, and dredging, and knowledge of the use of the anchor in an emergency.
