Regardless of how safely and robust petroleum operations are, errors, hazards and accidents can still occur. Therefore, barriers must be established to protect against accidents. This basic course covers the key concepts of barrier management to ensure a common understanding of them.

The course is based on Proactima’s model for holistic barrier management and builds on the Norwegian Offshore Directorate’s (Havtil) Barrier Memorandum 2017. The content contributors are personnel from Proactima with technical and operational experience in barrier management. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on practical understanding by using the 2020 fire at Hammerfest LNG as an example.

The e-learning course can be taken by its own or used as a foundation for further in-depth learning beyond Havtil’s Barrier Memorandum.

Proactima offers such in-depth learning as an advanced course delivered by an instructor, either digitally or in person. The advanced course is designed to enable participants to establish, follow up on, and improve the barrier management system in their own company/installation, and to provide insight into a practical method for barrier management in operations. The content can be tailored to the specific company. For an informal discussion, please contact learning@proactima.com.
