The life of a seafarer is by no means easy. Seafarers spend months at a time away from their loved ones. Needless to say, once the ship docks in port, many seafarers will often attempt to take some shore leave for a limited number of hours to provide them with a short respite from work duties and a change in scenery. This is extremely important to ensure the mental health and wellbeing of the seafarers.

This course discusses the impact of body language on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It emphasizes the concept of "power posing," where assuming certain postures can lead to changes in hormone levels and brain chemistry, ultimately affecting our behaviour and success.

The research shows that adopting high-power poses increases confidence and dominance-associated hormones like testosterone while decreasing stress-associated hormones like cortisol. This can result in better performance in various areas of life, such as job interviews and sports competitions. However, it's important to note that body language is just one factor among many that contribute to success. Genuine confidence and competence cannot be substituted by power posing alone. Nonetheless, being mindful of body language can boost confidence, improve communication skills, and enhance personal relationships. It also has an impact on emotional well-being and mental health. Furthermore, body language affects group dynamics and societal issues, with open and confident body language leading to more positive outcomes and action against injustice. In conclusion, our body language shapes not only how others perceive us but also how we perceive ourselves and navigate the world around us.

Welcome to the course on “Understand the Role of Safe Work practices”. Workplace safety is very important for each and every employee in the industry because all the workers desire to work in a safe and protected atmosphere. Health and safety is the key factor for all the industries in order to promote the wellness of both employees and employers. It is not just the duty but a moral responsibility of the company to look after the employee’s protection. Safe work practices consist of all the processes, protocols, and guidance put in place to help mitigate risks on-site and reduce injury and illness rates. All employees must be fully invested and committed to these and help create a safer work environment. When the workforce shows a dedication to safety, different risks and hazards on-site can be quickly identified and corrective actions can be set. Safe work practices have resulted in increased efficiency and productivity with less Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART) rates and Lost Time Injury (LTI) rates. They also result in reduction in injury and illness costs and insurance claims with less workers injured on the job. The resultant boost in employee morale and less employee turnover is a win-win situation for everyone involved. Organisations must constantly work towards educating their employees on safe work practices to create a healthy and fulfilling workplace.

In this course you will learn:

● The role of safe work practices across various industries

● The responsibilities and roles of supervisors and workers in organisational health and safety

● About the responsibilities of supervisors and workers in hazard identification, assessment and control, safety and health inspections, and accident reporting and investigation
